Please Read Luke 2
Christmas is the time of the year that we recognize the birth of Christ. But do we really stop to ponder what that means?
Do we ever truly meditate on the significance of this monumental event?
The Eternal Lord of the universe became man! Clothed Himself in human vesture to dwell on earth amongst His people. His creation.
In Luke chapter 2, we see the reactions to the birth of Jesus in two places: the physical world and the spiritual realm.
In the spiritual realm, we see the choir of angels singing praises to their King, who was now wrapped in flesh and lying in a manger.
In the physical world, we see the shepherds receiving the message from the angel and later encountering Mary, Joseph and the baby Jesus. We see a devout man in Israel named Simon, rejoicing that he lived long enough to encounter the long-awaited Messiah. We see the shepherds praising God for witnessing the Lord at His birth.
On this night, this holy birth united the spiritual and physical worlds. Angels and men were both witnesses of this divine arrival. Heavenly beings and earthly humans together worshipped the Creator, who was now born as a helpless baby.
Most importantly, we see the collision of the spiritual and physical in the Person of Christ. The Eternal God is Spirit (John 4:24), yet this invisible, immortal, all-wise Being became human, stepped into time and made the earth His home. The Omnipotent One willfully took on human limitations, while never ceasing to be God. Jesus is The One who reconciles God and man. He is the bridge builder between the earthly and the heavenly.
So we celebrate His birth, this key event in history. Christmas is about the Lordship of Jesus over heaven and earth (Matthew 28:18). He rules them both. And He reconciles them both.
Merry Christmas!
