A Prayer for God’s Presence by St. Augustine

St. Augustine of Hippo This is a beautiful prayer by St. Augustine, asking for God’s presence. Meditate on this prayer before you go to sleep at night or when you wake up to begin the morning. Notice the things that Augustine is praying for. Holiness, wisdom, finding satisfaction in God. This is what we are blessed with as we draw closer to The Lord. He’s always near. Let us come to Him.  Prayer of St. Augustine of Hippo Look upon us, O Lord, and let all the darkness of our souls vanish before the beams of thy brightness. Fill us with holy love, and open to us the treasures of thy wisdom. All our desire is known unto thee, therefore perfect what thou hast begun, and what thy Spirit has awakened us to ask in prayer. We seek thy face, turn thy face unto us and show us thy glory. Then shall our longing be satisfied, and our peace shall be perfect.

A Night Prayer for the Restless

In these wicked and uncertain times we’re living in, it can be easy to feel stressed, overwhelmed, afraid, etc. I’ve been feeling this way for weeks. As if the entire world was on my shoulders. But I’m so thankful that Christ promised to take our burdens. No matter what you’re experiencing, you can still approach God. This is a short prayer, but I hope it brings you peace as you rest. Holy Creator of Heaven and Earth, You created and ordained the sun to illuminate the day and the moon and stars to illuminate the night. As we sleep through the night, guard our hearts and minds. Shield us from all forms of evil and darkness. Let your very Presence comfort us, especially those who are suffering and overwhelmed. Lord let us rest in Your Peace this evening.  Take our burdens, intervene in our struggles and draw us closer to You Father. Ease our minds. Protect us, guard us and guide us.  In the Name of our Lord Jesus Christ.  Amen.

The Ascension of Our Lord

Please read and meditate on Acts 1:9-11 and Luke 24:50-53* Today, we recognize the Ascension of Christ. Around 40 days after His Resurrection, our Lord Jesus ascended into Heaven. Many of us don’t take the time to understand the significance of Jesus’s Ascension. Even though it was sad to see Jesus leave His disciples, there were several things that Jesus needed to accomplish by ascending to Heaven. 1.) Mediation : Jesus is our Great High Priest. The role of the high priest was to provide sacrifice to God and reconciliation to God on behalf of the people. This is what Jesus did through His Sacrifice and Ascension. He is seated on God’s right hand to intercede for His Church. See Romans 8:34. 2.) Kingship : Jesus’ Ascension into Heaven is a fulfillment of Psalm 110 . Seated at the right hand of The Father, Jesus has been exalted as The Eternal King of the universe. Seated on Heaven’s throne, Jesus is both King and Judge of all nations.  3.) Promise of the Holy Spirit : Jesus ...

Resurrection Sunday

Scripture References:  Matthew 28                                        Mark 16                                        Luke 24                                       John 20-21 *Please read and meditate on these Scriptures* Summary:  Jesus has resurrected from the dead! After first appearing to Mary Magdalene and other women, Jesus instructs them to tell the disciples that He is alive. What’s interesting is that the disciples (except for John the Apostle) all abandoned Jesus during His Crucifixion. But now He is ready to receive them and commission them. The Resurrection of Jesus Christ is the foundational doctrine of the Christian faith.               ...

Holy Saturday Prayer

…And I hold the keys of death and Hades. Revelation 1:18 Dear Lord, We take this time to remember Your sacrifice, even as You lied in the grave. We confess it was our sins that put You there. We were among the scoffers and mockers. We were among those who betrayed and forsaken You. But we also know that You chose death out of Your love for us. While we were yet sinners. Lord, forgive us for taking Your death for granted. Forgive us for trampling Your sacrifice under our feet. Forgive us for loving and treasuring the sins that You died to free us from. Thank you Lord Jesus, for freeing us from the fear of death. You now possess the keys of death and Hell. You rule over those living and alive. Heaven and Hell both belong to You. Thank you for conquering the grace. Thank You for the gift of eternal life. Amen

Good Friday

Scripture References: Matthew 27, Mark 15, Luke 23, John 18 & 19 * Please read and meditate on these Scriptures * Summary : Jesus is handed over to the Roman authorities to be Crucified. Also known as Christ’s Passion, Jesus suffered this agonizing, torturous death for the sins of mankind.                     Prayer Lamb of God, You are the Suffering Servant prophesied in Isaiah 53. Your Crucifixion was more than physical death. You took upon Yourself the sins of the entire world. You offer us pardon from the guilt and condemnation of sins. Your death atones and restores us to the honor of being God’s children. Through your blood, the powers of darkness are defeated.  As we meditate on Your death, Lord, cause us to see our sins in differently. Our sins nailed You to the Cross. Help us to meditate on Your Passion. Forgive us for taking Your death lightly. Cleanse us, forgive us and heal us. Amen

Holy Thursday

Scripture References: John 13                                           1 Corinthians 11:23-26 * Please read and meditate on these Scriptures * Summary : This is the day we commemorate the Last Supper Jesus had with His disciples and how He washed their feet, demonstrating the heart of a servant.                        Prayer Son of Man, You are The High and Lifted One spoken of in Isaiah 6. Yet, as a man, You came to serve. You demonstrated true humility by washing your disciples’ feet and even defined your Kingdom as one of service.  Lord, help us to have true humility. Give us hearts to serve and labor for Your Kingdom. Let us not seek after vain glory, but seek to glorify You. Open up opportunities for us to serve others and reflect Your heart. Amen
