Meditations of the Gospel of John: Chapter 21

Jesus appears for the third time to His disciples by the sea of Tiberias. Before that, the disciples spend the night fishing, though unsuccessfully. In the morning, they see Jesus on the shore and He asks them if they caught anything, which they did not. Jesus then instructs the disciples to cast the net on the right side of the ship and they ended up catching 153 fish in the net. This incident is significant because 1.) Jesus obviously compelled the fish to enter the nets, since we see that nature obeys Him. 2.) This was a foreshadowing of the disciples' future ministry that would take place after Jesus' Ascension.

After the fish are caught, we also Jesus preparing and sharing a meal with His disciples. This is such a wonderful picture of Christ's intimate fellowship with His disciples.

                                  St. Peter

Later, Jesus asks Peter three times a very important question. He's asks Peter, 'Do you love Me?', to which Peter replies yes. Then Jesus tells him to 'Feed My sheep.' Jesus was commissioning Peter into a pastoral office. In verse 18, it seems that Jesus is prophesying Peter's future martyrdom. This is so incredible because We see Jesus not only previously forgave Peter, but now He has restored Peter. Peter now has a place in God's Kingdom as a Shepherd.

Lastly, John concludes his Gospel by sharing that Jesus did many other works. And that no amount of books can contain everything He has done. I imagine that these works include acts that were done before creation and even works done throughout the ages. The souls that Christ has saved. The miracles He performed on behalf of His children and many other things.

Holy Wednesday

Scripture Reference: Luke 22:1-6 Summary: As the Passover Feast approaches, the chief priests and scribes begin conspiring to kill Jesus. They discover they have an ally, Judas Iscariot, who agrees to betray Jesus for a price.                        Prayer Holy Savior, Many times we criticize Judas for betraying You. But how often have we betrayed Your Holy Majesty through our sins? Through our irreverence and sacrilege?  Lord, forgive us! Make us clean! Remove idolatry from our hearts and Give us hearts with total and committed loyalty to You. Let us not be entangled with the things of this world, the lust of the eyes and the pride of life. Renew a right spirit within us and help us to abide in You. Amen

Holy Week Update

Hello Everyone! Holy Week starts tomorrow and I just wanted to give you some updates. I am still planning on working on the Daniel devotions. I haven’t forgotten about them. I’ve been busy with work, church and just being exhausted.  As for Holy Week, I decided to do something different. Instead of writing my insights on Holy Week Scriptures (like I did last year), I decided to write prayers for each day. The Bible command us to pray without ceasing (1 Thessalonians 5:17). Also, it is impossible to have a devotional life without prayer. I will post the Sculpture references and encourage reading them as well as praying. Also feel free to look back at the Holy Week devotionals from last year.  May God bless you as you pursue Him!
