Meditations on The Gospel of John: Chapter 6

This chapter begins with the account of Jesus feeding the 5,000 the fish and bread loaves. After this miracle, the people literally want to make Jesus a king by force, so Jesus departs. This reminds me that Jesus and His Kingdom are not of this world and He transcends earthly politics. The Miracle of The Fish and loaves reiterates that The Lord is a provider and He isn't limited by anything. He is able to alter even the laws of physics to accomplish what He wishes.

Later, the people of the area are seeking Jesus and Jesus reveals that they are looking for Him because of the food He provided. But then He tells them not waste their time working to acquire food that is temporary, but for the meat endures unto eternal life. The people immediately reference the manna that the Israelites ate in the wilderness. But they didn't realize that the physical manna was pointing to an even greater spiritual reality. Jesus then declares His first 'I AM' statement.

I AM The Bread of Life

Jesus then makes a controversial statement that causes everyone (except the twelve) to abandon Him. He says in verse 53 that whoever eats My flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life.

Jesus is the source of my life and He is the Only One who spiritually nourishes me and fills me. He promises that anyone who comes to Him will never thirst or hunger again. He will also be the source of my spiritual nourishment in eternity. The physical manna was temporary and only satisfied for the day. But Jesus provides life-giving, sustaining sustenance that lasts forever and ever. May I always hunger and thirst after Christ!

Holy Wednesday

Scripture Reference: Luke 22:1-6 Summary: As the Passover Feast approaches, the chief priests and scribes begin conspiring to kill Jesus. They discover they have an ally, Judas Iscariot, who agrees to betray Jesus for a price. Prayer Holy Savior, Many times we criticize Judas for betraying You. But how often have we betrayed Your Holy Majesty through our sins? Through our irreverence and sacrilege? Lord, forgive us! Make us clean! Remove idolatry from our hearts and Give us hearts with total and committed loyalty to You. Let us not be entangled with the things of this world, the lust of the eyes and the pride of life. Renew a right spirit within us and help us to abide in You. Amen

Holy Week Update

Hello Everyone! Holy Week starts tomorrow and I just wanted to give you some updates. I am still planning on working on the Daniel devotions. I haven’t forgotten about them. I’ve been busy with work, church and just being exhausted. As for Holy Week, I decided to do something different. Instead of writing my insights on Holy Week Scriptures (like I did last year), I decided to write prayers for each day. The Bible command us to pray without ceasing (1 Thessalonians 5:17). Also, it is impossible to have a devotional life without prayer. I will post the Sculpture references and encourage reading them as well as praying.
