Meditations of The Gospel of John: Chapter 4

The first account of this passage is Jesus' encounter with The Samaritan woman. She arrives at the Well to retrieve water. Jesus uses this moment as an opportunity to reveal His identity as well as illustrate a crucial spiritual truth. He explains to the woman that if anyone drinks of this water, he will thirst again, but the water He (Jesus) gives will bring eternal life and the person will never thirst again. The Samaritan woman mentions that the Well was given to her people by Jacob. With this in mind, Jesus was making an illustration of the two Covenants: if anyone drinks from Jacob's Well (the Old Covenant) he will remain thirsty. But if anyone drinks the Living Water Jesus offers (the New Covenant), he will never thirst again. Under the Old Covenant,  there is Law and condemnation. God's Presence is temporarily given in the tabernacle and the only way to be declared clean enough to enter His Holy Presence is through the blood of animals. Gentiles were only allowed to pray on the outer court of the Temple. Under the New Covenant, there is a radical change of dynamics. The veil to the Holy of Holies was ripped in two, allowing access into God's Presence through Christ's Blood. The Holy Spirit now dwells in Believers. We are under grace instead of the Law. Being an ethnic Jew or Gentile no longer has relevance. This is what Jesus was inviting The Samaritan woman to! He was inviting her to Salvation! This is the Living Water because it satisfies all the requirements of the soul. He even tells her that physical locations of worship will no longer matter.

God is Spirit (not limited by human faculties, eternal) and He will be worshipped in Spirit (not according to a physical image, loved and adored from the heart. Led by the Holy Spirit) and truth (according to How He has revealed Himself in His Word).

In a shorter passage, a nobleman's son is sick to the point of death. Jesus declares that the son will live. The nobleman believes Jesus and his son is healed. I see the power of Christ and I see tremendous faith. God will act on our faith. Without faith, we cannot please God. Faith itself is also a gift from God. It is essential to my walk with The Lord.

First, Jesus drives the money changers and merchants out of the temple, refusing to let this sacred place of worship be exploited for financial gain. Later, Jesus curses a Fig tree for its refusal to bear fruit.  *Please read and meditate on these Scripture Passages*                                                         Prayer Sovereign Lord,  Grant me a clean heart. Remove sins and even wrongful attitudes and motives. Let me worship You out of a pure heart and drive out any darkness that clouds my soul an...

Holy Wednesday

Scripture Reference: Luke 22:1-6 Summary: As the Passover Feast approaches, the chief priests and scribes begin conspiring to kill Jesus. They discover they have an ally, Judas Iscariot, who agrees to betray Jesus for a price.                        Prayer Holy Savior, Many times we criticize Judas for betraying You. But how often have we betrayed Your Holy Majesty through our sins? Through our irreverence and sacrilege?  Lord, forgive us! Make us clean! Remove idolatry from our hearts and Give us hearts with total and committed loyalty to You. Let us not be entangled with the things of this world, the lust of the eyes and the pride of life. Renew a right spirit within us and help us to abide in You. Amen

Holy Week Update

Hello Everyone! Holy Week starts tomorrow and I just wanted to give you some updates. I am still planning on working on the Daniel devotions. I haven’t forgotten about them. I’ve been busy with work, church and just being exhausted.  As for Holy Week, I decided to do something different. Instead of writing my insights on Holy Week Scriptures (like I did last year), I decided to write prayers for each day. The Bible command us to pray without ceasing (1 Thessalonians 5:17). Also, it is impossible to have a devotional life without prayer. I will post the Sculpture references and encourage reading them as well as praying. Also feel free to look back at the Holy Week devotionals from last year.  May God bless you as you pursue Him!
