St. Augustine of Hippo This is a beautiful prayer by St. Augustine, asking for God’s presence. Meditate on this prayer before you go to sleep at night or when you wake up to begin the morning. Notice the things that Augustine is praying for. Holiness, wisdom, finding satisfaction in God. This is what we are blessed with as we draw closer to The Lord. He’s always near. Let us come to Him. Prayer of St. Augustine of Hippo Look upon us, O Lord, and let all the darkness of our souls vanish before the beams of thy brightness. Fill us with holy love, and open to us the treasures of thy wisdom. All our desire is known unto thee, therefore perfect what thou hast begun, and what thy Spirit has awakened us to ask in prayer. We seek thy face, turn thy face unto us and show us thy glory. Then shall our longing be satisfied, and our peace shall be perfect.
In these wicked and uncertain times we’re living in, it can be easy to feel stressed, overwhelmed, afraid, etc. I’ve been feeling this way for weeks. As if the entire world was on my shoulders. But I’m so thankful that Christ promised to take our burdens. No matter what you’re experiencing, you can still approach God. This is a short prayer, but I hope it brings you peace as you rest. Holy Creator of Heaven and Earth, You created and ordained the sun to illuminate the day and the moon and stars to illuminate the night. As we sleep through the night, guard our hearts and minds. Shield us from all forms of evil and darkness. Let your very Presence comfort us, especially those who are suffering and overwhelmed. Lord let us rest in Your Peace this evening. Take our burdens, intervene in our struggles and draw us closer to You Father. Ease our minds. Protect us, guard us and guide us. In the Name of our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.
